Varanasi to Get Purvanchal’s First Modern ‘Sports City Centre’ Near Nadesar Pond

VARANASI — In a major boost to regional sports infrastructure, fitness, and urban recreation, the Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled plans to develop a state-of-the-art "Sports City Centre" near Nadesar Pond in Varanasi. The project is set to become the first multi-sports activity zone of its kind in the entire Purvanchal region.

A key highlight of the modern facility will be a complete digital integration allowing citizens and athletes to pre-book slots online for their favorite sports according to their convenience. This online booking mechanism aims to streamline access, save time, and eliminate long waiting queues at the venue.

Diverse Sports & Wellness Facilities

Detailing the infrastructural blueprint, Varanasi Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal stated that the upcoming multi-sports zone will feature professional setups for a wide variety of activities. The center will cater to diverse athletic interests, offering dedicated facilities for:

• Pickleball

• Lawn Tennis

• Box Cricket

• Skating

Beyond high-energy physical sports, the complex will integrate a dedicated spiritual space designed specifically for yoga and meditation practice. Embracing universal accessibility, the entire complex is being designed from the ground up to be completely differently-abled friendly.

A Hub for Eco-Tourism and Leisure

The development is planned not just as an athletic arena but as a scenic getaway for nature lovers. Smart City Chief General Manager Amarendra Tiwari highlighted that the area surrounding Nadesar Pond will undergo a significant ecological facelift. New public attractions will include:
