Varanasi, February 2026: The Indian Industries Association (IIA), Varanasi chapter, has expressed a cautiously optimistic response to the Union Budget 2026‑27, describing it as balanced and development-oriented, while highlighting both achievements and areas where expectations were unmet.

IIA representatives praised the government’s focus on regional infrastructure development, including projects such as inland waterways and ship repair facilities in Varanasi, which are expected to boost local industrial capacity. The association also welcomed the ₹100 crore sanction for the development of Ramnagar Industrial Area, viewing it as a step forward for regional economic growth.

However, the IIA emphasized that the allocation of ₹10,000 crore for the MSME sector fell short of expectations. Pankaj Agarwal, IIA Varanasi Chairman, stated that while the budget reflects a vision for self-reliant India and job creation, the MSME sector—crucial for employment and local entrepreneurship—requires more substantial support.

The association highlighted the potential of improved logistics and industrial infrastructure to encourage investment, increase efficiency, and create more employment opportunities in the region. “While we appreciate the government’s focus on development and infrastructure, MSMEs remain the backbone of local industry, and adequate funding is essential for their growth,” said Agarwal.

Overall, the IIA’s reaction can be summarized as cautiously optimistic, balancing approval for regional development initiatives with a call for enhanced support for MSMEs, which continue to play a pivotal role in Varanasi’s industrial landscape.
