Serious concerns regarding corruption, land dealings, public accountability, and rising fuel prices dominated the DISHA Committee meeting held in Varanasi, where Samajwadi Party MP Virendra Singh launched a strong attack on several government projects and administrative decisions.

During the meeting, the MP raised sharp objections over the condition of the Varuna Corridor project, questioning how nearly ₹400 crore could allegedly be spent despite claims that the project remains in poor condition. He demanded a high-level investigation into the financial management and execution of the project, alleging irregularities and lack of transparency in the work.

Another major issue discussed during the meeting was the reported sale of land belonging to Vasant Kanya Inter College without obtaining permission from the District Judge. The matter triggered serious concerns regarding legal procedures and administrative oversight in transactions involving educational institutions.

Questions were also raised regarding the transfer and use of BLW land. Opposition members sought a detailed report explaining the process through which the land was allegedly handed over to private entities. Concerns over public assets being diverted for private interests became one of the central topics during the discussion.

The meeting further focused on ongoing Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects inside the Commissionerate compound. Officials were asked to clarify the present status of buildings under construction and explain delays or any possible irregularities associated with the projects.

Apart from local development issues, the discussion also turned toward the rising prices of petrol and diesel. Virendra Singh accused oil companies of profiteering despite fluctuations in global crude oil prices, claiming that common citizens continue to face increasing economic pressure due to inflation and expensive fuel.

He stated that while the public struggles with rising costs of transportation and essential commodities, corporations continue to benefit financially. The remarks added a broader political and economic dimension to the already heated discussion.

The DISHA Committee meeting once again brought governance, transparency, and accountability into focus, as opposition leaders demanded answers regarding the management of public money, land resources, and development projects in Varanasi.
