VARANASI: Arvind Limited's garment factory in Mirzamurad was inaugurated on Sunday, October 25, moving the project from a proposed opening to a completed ceremony. The company says the Rs 150 crore unit is expected to employ more than 1,000 people, mainly women. The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the visit in an update issued at 10.02 pm IST that day, with further accounts published on October 26.

For residents looking for Varanasi textile jobs, the central figure is an employment projection. Arvind's October 25 filing describes more than 1,000 direct jobs expected from the plant; it does not say that all those positions have already been filled. The facility is the company's first manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh.

What the company has confirmed

The company's stock exchange filing puts the site at 5.5 acres and the built area at approximately 65,000 square feet. It identifies essential knitwear as the products to be manufactured there. Those figures provide a more precise description of the new unit than the larger land estimates appearing in some accounts of the visit.

Arvind also gives the plant a revenue potential of Rs 250 crore. That is the company's estimate of potential business, rather than a statement of sales already achieved at Mirzamurad. The investment figure, site area and revenue estimate describe different parts of the project and should not be read as interchangeable measures of its present output.

  • Location: Mirzamurad, Varanasi.
  • Investment stated by Arvind: approximately Rs 150 crore.
  • Site and built area: 5.5 acres and approximately 65,000 square feet.
  • Employment expectation: over 1,000 direct jobs, predominantly for women.

The company says the unit will turn knitted fabric produced within its own business into finished garments. This connects the new sewing and apparel operation to its existing fabric supply. Arvind also places the facility within its plans to supply customers in European and United Kingdom markets, while providing no plant specific export order total in the release.

Arvind chairman Sanjay Lalbhai and vice chairmen Punit Lalbhai and Kulin Lalbhai accompanied the Prime Minister during the facility tour, according to the company release.

Women workers and accommodation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi toured the factory and met women employees during the opening. Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended. The Prime Minister's Office photo gallery records the factory walkthrough and the interaction with women employees on October 25.

Accounts of the interaction describe women discussing their training, work and ambitions. One report published on October 26 said employees spoke about receiving pay during training and using their earnings for further education. These are accounts of individual workers' experiences; the material reviewed does not provide a standard salary scale or terms applying to every employee.

Arvind says dedicated worker hostels have been established and that it intends to add residential facilities as operations expand. Its release does not specify the number of hostel places or the timetable for that expansion. Accommodation is therefore a confirmed part of the company's stated arrangements, with the scale of future provision still unspecified.

What remains to be announced

The company expects local suppliers, transport and other services to benefit alongside direct factory employment. Vice chairman Punit Lalbhai linked the project to local sourcing and the possibility of workers returning closer to home. Those are anticipated effects of the investment; no measured local income or migration figures accompanied the release.

The documents reviewed do not set out a public recruitment deadline, application form or eligibility list. Prospective applicants should distinguish the employment estimate from a formal vacancy announcement.
