VARANASI: Sarnath police arrested two men near the Faridpur underpass late on Tuesday, October 27, in connection with a burglary at a locked house in Amanpuri Colony, according to local reports published on Wednesday, October 28. Police said jewellery and passports were recovered, and that further inquiries were continuing. The arrests are the new development in a case involving an earlier break in at the colony.
The locality falls within the Sarnath police station area. Police identified the two accused as Mohammad Bairul Islam and Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, also known as Munna, and described them as residents of Chapai Nawabganj in Bangladesh. Their nationality and the property recovery are police statements. Neither man's arrest establishes guilt in the burglary case.
What police said about the recovery
Station officer Pankaj Tripathi said the inquiry concerned a house in Amanpuri Colony whose occupants had been away. A report of the case said the residents discovered the broken lock after returning from a trip. The police account linked the two men to the theft of jewellery from that property.
Two reports independently described a recovery of jewellery, cash, passports and tools. Both put the cash recovery at Rs 4,000. Police said implements found with the men included a screwdriver and iron tools used to force locks. These remain alleged recoveries described in the reporting, rather than findings independently established by a court.
Police said information about people attempting to dispose of stolen property led officers to the Faridpur underpass. The two men were detained there during the investigation. Reports also described checks of camera footage and location information, but did not provide the underlying records for public examination.
Documents and further inquiries
The passports are being examined, according to the police account. Deputy Commissioner of Police for Varuna Zone Rajesh Pandey said police and other agencies had questioned the men and were collecting further information. The available accounts do not establish that the passports were forged, and no such conclusion should be drawn while verification continues.
Reports gave differing descriptions of the purpose and timing of the men's arrival in India. Those details remain unresolved in the available material. The common, corroborated development is the arrest of two accused near Faridpur, the investigation into the Amanpuri house burglary and the examination of their documents.
One account said the men had been produced before a court and sent to jail. The text of that court order was not available in the official material reviewed. The commissionerate's official press release archive provides the police's public notices; its latest visible upload during this check was dated October 22 and did not independently document these arrests.
For separate local policing background, read the earlier reports on another Sarnath burglary investigation, the attempted burglary at Ayar Bazar and the Sarnath fake firm case. No connection between those cases and the present arrests has been established.
