Tamil Nadu issues MPT prospectus for 2026-27 admissions

The Tamil Nadu Selection Committee has issued the prospectus for admission to the Master of Physiotherapy course for the 2026-27 academic session. It covers Government Medical Colleges and Government Quota seats in self-financing private institutions affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. The prospectus is issued by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research and carries the admission schedule, eligibility rules, examination scheme and counselling framework.

The at-a-glance section lists 18 September 2026 as the notification date and 18 September at 10 AM as the start of online applications. The last date for online submission is 22 September 2026 up to 5 PM. The offline entrance examination is tentatively scheduled for 4 October 2026 and is subject to change. Dates for the rank, counselling, course commencement and closure of admission are to be notified later.

Eligibility and application requirements

The prospectus says an applicant should be a citizen of India and should possess a BPT degree awarded by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University or an equivalent degree recognised by that university on regular mode. Candidates qualified from another university must submit an eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University at the time of admission.

Candidates must have obtained at least 50 per cent of the total marks across all semesters of the BPT degree and must have completed the internship before 30 September 2026. The prospectus also says a candidate who has already completed a postgraduate degree in any branch of MPT, or is undergoing MPT in any branch, is not eligible to apply for another MPT specialty.

The application fee is Rs 1,200 and is non-refundable. The prospectus says fee payment is through the online payment portal using debit card, credit card, net banking, RTGS or UPI. A mere deduction from a bank account is not proof of payment. The application must be submitted by 5 PM on 22 September, after which the prospectus says there is no provision to submit the online form.

Entrance examination and merit calculation

The offline entrance examination will be conducted only at Chennai on 4 October 2026, tentatively and subject to change. Eligible candidates can download hall tickets from tnmedicalselection.net by logging in with their application number and password. The prospectus advises candidates to reach the examination centre at 9:30 AM and be seated 15 minutes before the examination begins. Only candidates with hall tickets will be allowed into the hall.

The examination is at undergraduate level and contains 100 objective questions in English, with four responses for each question. Each question carries one mark. There is no negative mark for an incorrect response, and an unanswered question receives zero. The maximum marks are computed to 90 marks. The prospectus says individual entrance marks will be displayed on the official website and no rechecking, revaluation or re-totaling will be allowed.

The merit list will be prepared out of 100 marks, using up to 90 marks from the entrance examination and up to 10 experience marks. One mark is given for each completed year of experience as on 31 March 2026, subject to the maximum. Service candidates who served in hilly areas can receive two marks per year for that service, but the total experience component remains restricted to 10 marks.

Counselling, fees and course duration

Admission will be through online counselling based on rank and the Tamil Nadu Government rule of reservation or roster system. Candidates will be allotted seats according to rank, and the prospectus says an option once given in online counselling cannot later be changed. Candidates attending online counselling must pay a non-refundable registration fee of Rs 500 through the online payment route.

The MPT course duration is two years. The prospectus lists annual tuition of Rs 6,500 in Government Colleges and Rs 75,000 in self-financing colleges, subject to the fee proceedings cited in the document. Selected candidates must pay Rs 6,500 online towards the tuition fee for the allotment order, with adjustment against the tuition fee. The fee is non-refundable if the candidate discontinues or does not join.

The prospectus also sets a discontinuation fee of Rs 1,50,000 for students allotted and joined in Government Medical College seats who discontinue after the cut-off date. It says service and non-service candidates have separate bond conditions, and that stipend, fee structure and bond conditions in self-financing institutions follow the rules of the concerned institution.

Applicants should read the complete prospectus before submitting the form, upload the required certificates and keep checking tnmedicalselection.net. The first dates are clear, but the rank list, counselling schedule and course commencement remain to be notified later. For the 2026-27 MPT intake, the immediate calendar is application from 18 September, submission by 5 PM on 22 September and a tentative entrance examination on 4 October.
