Strict Action Taken Against Taxi and Auto Drivers Misbehaving with Passengers at Varanasi Airport

Varanasi: Taking strict action against complaints of harassment of passengers, the Uttar Pradesh Police launched a surprise crackdown at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. During the operation, police arrested four taxi and auto drivers accused of misbehaving with passengers and seized two vehicles for violating traffic rules.
According to officials, passengers arriving at the airport had repeatedly complained about taxi and auto drivers gathering near the arrival gate and pressuring them to hire their vehicles. As soon as passengers exited the terminal, drivers would surround them, often insisting that they take their taxi or auto. When passengers refused, some drivers reportedly behaved rudely, causing discomfort and inconvenience.
Authorities also found that many drivers were parking their vehicles in the arrival lane instead of the designated parking areas. This not only disrupted traffic movement but also created congestion near the airport entrance, affecting the smooth flow of vehicles and passengers.
Taking the matter seriously, Akash Patel had earlier held a meeting with taxi and auto drivers and issued a final warning. Drivers were clearly instructed not to approach or harass passengers in the arrival lane and to use only the allotted parking areas.
Despite these warnings, complaints continued, prompting the police to deploy four personnel permanently at the airport premises to maintain order.
On Monday, acting on these complaints, the police team from Phulpur Police Station conducted a special drive at the airport. During the operation, four drivers were arrested for surrounding passengers and creating disturbances, while two vehicles that were obstructing traffic were seized.
The police administration has once again warned all taxi and auto unions operating near the airport to strictly follow the rules and use only designated parking areas. Officials said that any driver found misbehaving with passengers or violating traffic regulations will face strict legal action.
