SpiceJet Ends All Operations From Varanasi, Last Mumbai Flights Carry 428 Passengers

SpiceJet has discontinued its Varanasi-Mumbai flight service and has now completely stopped operations from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi.
The airline operated its final flights on the Mumbai-Varanasi-Mumbai route on Thursday, June 25. According to airport sources, flight SG-505 from Mumbai to Varanasi arrived with 213 passengers on board, while the return flight SG-506 from Varanasi to Mumbai departed with 215 passengers. Together, the last two SpiceJet flights on the route carried a total of 428 travellers.
With the closure of the Mumbai route, SpiceJet has fully exited Varanasi operations. The airline had earlier operated flights from Varanasi to Delhi and other major cities, but these services were gradually discontinued over time. In recent months, the Mumbai-Varanasi-Mumbai route was the only remaining SpiceJet service from the airport.
Airport sources said the decision was linked to high operational costs, aircraft availability issues and rising aviation turbine fuel prices. The move comes at a time when several airlines across the country continue to face operational pressure due to fuel costs and fleet management challenges.
For passengers travelling to and from Varanasi, flight services will continue to be available through other airlines, including IndiGo, Air India Express and Akasa Air, which operate regular connections on multiple routes from the city.
The development marks a notable reduction in air connectivity options from Varanasi, especially for passengers who had been using SpiceJet’s direct Mumbai service.
