NEW DELHI: The realme P3 5G's 2.5m water-resistance figure comes from a controlled IP68 test lasting 30 minutes in still, clear water. The same official product page says immersion damage is excluded from warranty cover. Understanding those conditions matters more than treating the phone's prominent IP69 branding as an unrestricted promise.

Read the test conditions beside the badge

The small print gives the depth-and-duration conditions specifically under IP68. That distinction should survive any retelling of the claim. Combining all the page's water-resistance language into a single promise would remove the conditions that make the figure meaningful to an owner.

A controlled test is a defined scenario. A phone falling into water during a journey presents questions about the liquid, the condition of the device and what happened before it was recovered. The published depth figure alone cannot answer those questions or establish the cause of a subsequent fault.

For Indian owners who carry a phone through wet commutes or use it beside a sink, the relevant takeaway is the limit of the claim. The rating can describe tested resistance while leaving the cost of a particular accident unresolved. Those ideas coexist on the P3 product page and should be read together.

The warranty question is separate

Before assuming a repair will be free, distinguish the observed problem from an explanation for it. A display that stops responding is a symptom. Whether the cause is a manufacturing issue, accidental damage or immersion requires assessment. Describing the symptom accurately is more useful than choosing a cause from a marketing badge.

Keep the invoice and a clear account of what happened available when seeking an assessment. A dated record of the incident and the symptoms can make the conversation easier to follow. This is practical preparation, not a claim that documentation overrides an exclusion or guarantees a particular repair decision.

The official India warranty policy is the appropriate place to check the applicable service conditions. An owner's separate protection plan, if any, should be read on its own terms. Do not infer that the P3's resistance rating automatically creates accidental-damage insurance or expands another contract.

Resistance can change during ownership

Realme states that water and dust resistance can diminish with normal wear and is not permanent. That means the test description should not be read as a fresh certification of an individual handset every time it is used. Its service history and condition remain relevant to any real incident.

A useful way to read the claim is to keep the model's specification sheet, its product-page footnote and the warranty terms together. Each answers a different ownership question. The specification identifies the handset; the footnote defines the test; the policy describes service coverage.

Why the P3's other features do not settle this

The P3 specification page lists a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset, a 6.67-inch AMOLED display reaching 120Hz, a typical 6000mAh battery and 45W charging with an adapter included. These are concrete features of the model, but none changes the published immersion exclusion.

The camera feature list also includes an Under Water mode. The presence of a named shooting mode should not be interpreted as a separate warranty undertaking. A menu feature and a repair policy answer different questions, even when they appear within the same product's official material.

That is the model-specific tension in the P3 presentation: an unusually prominent water-resistance pitch sits alongside explicit laboratory conditions and a damage exclusion. Reading only the headline badge misses part of the product's own description. This explainer reports that boundary without claiming the desk has independently repeated the test.
