Varanasi: On the sixth anniversary of the Pulwama attack, Shiv Sena leaders in Varanasi expressed strong opinions regarding Valentine’s Day celebrations and the influence of Western culture on Indian youth. Speaking to media, Ajay Chaubey, Vice President of Shiv Sena in the state, emphasized the importance of preserving Sanatan Dharma and Indian cultural values amidst modern developments.

Chaubey noted that while young people are increasingly influenced by Western traditions like Valentine’s Day, it is crucial to remember India’s cultural heritage, including patriotism and respect for women. He cited that February 14 also marks the execution day of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, highlighting the day’s historical and patriotic significance.

The Shiv Sena leaders warned that they would take action if young people were found engaging in inappropriate behaviour during Valentine’s Day celebrations. They stressed that while the administration is responsible for maintaining law and order, the community also has a role in protecting culture and morality. Chaubey stated that Shiv Sena members will monitor public spaces, including parks, hotels, and malls, to prevent any acts that disrespect women or Indian cultural values.

The leaders also announced plans for a confidential campaign where symbolic effigies representing Western influence will be burnt, aiming to raise awareness among youth and encourage adherence to Indian traditions.

Shiv Sena’s statements reflect a continued emphasis on safeguarding cultural identity while balancing development and modern influences in the city.
