NEW DELHI: Nokia 105 carries an official claim of up to 22 days on standby or up to 12 hours of talk time from its 1000mAh battery. Those figures describe different uses of the handset. HMD does not present them as a combined promise of calls, radio listening and weeks away from a charger.

Standby and talk time answer different questions

Standby is relevant to a phone spending much of its time waiting for a call. Talk time concerns an active conversation. Treating the longer headline as the time available for every activity would erase the distinction HMD itself makes by publishing separate figures. Neither number is a personalised estimate for a particular owner's routine.

Consider a Nokia 105 kept as the household's spare calling handset. It may sit unused between occasional conversations, but its owner still needs it charged when the main phone is unavailable. That role is different from using the same device for lengthy calls throughout a working day. The name on the battery is unchanged; the job expected of it is not.

A sensible handover therefore includes explaining what the quoted endurance describes. Simply telling a relative that the phone lasts for weeks can create the wrong expectation. The useful explanation is that HMD publishes a long waiting-time claim alongside a separate calling-time claim, without promising either result for an individual day of mixed use.

The radio adds another everyday task

Nokia 105 includes wireless FM radio, which HMD says can work with or without a headset. That makes radio part of the phone's everyday purpose, rather than an incidental specification. However, the official pages checked do not provide a separate continuous FM playback duration, so this report does not assign one.

For an owner who listens to local programmes while working at home, the missing playback figure matters. The standby claim cannot answer how long that listening session will run. Equally, the talk-time claim does not become a radio benchmark merely because both activities use the same handset and battery. These are separate questions requiring separate evidence.

HMD says the battery is larger than in the predecessor, but that comparison does not establish an owner's actual improvement. A previous Nokia 105 may refer to a different generation. Identifying the product by its current specification page and model identifier is more reliable than assuming every phone sold under the familiar name has identical hardware.

Keep the charging setup tied to this Nokia

The technical sheet lists a Micro USB charger in the box. The connector is important because a household's other charging cables may fit different sockets. Matching this phone to its own lead and charger is a concrete preparation step, particularly when a relative is setting it up on someone else's behalf.

This Nokia 105 should also be distinguished from the device in our Nokia 110 Power vs HMD 110 price: HMD 110 starts lower at Rs 1,349. Our Nokia 130M (2023) price list: Rs 2,027 for Dark Blue concerns another model again. Similar names do not establish interchangeable charging specifications or the same network features.

What can be checked without an endurance test

HMD lists S30+ software, a physical keypad, a torch, capacity for up to 2,000 contacts and 500 SMS messages. These details explain the phone's focus on straightforward communication. They also give the person preparing it specific things to organise, such as making frequently used contacts easy for its owner to find.

Our Nokia 235 4G price: Rs 4,199 for 64MB/128MB covers a different approach to reaching family. On this Nokia 105, the endurance figures remain manufacturer claims, not results from our own test. HMD also notes that battery capacity reduces over time, another reason to avoid turning a published maximum into a permanent charging schedule.
