NEW DELHI: HMD 101 4G Dual Sim offers online services through cloud-hosted shortcuts while running S30+ software with 16MB RAM and 24MB internal storage. HMD highlights news, weather, cricket results and entertainment. Those Cloud Apps sit alongside the phone's calling and local music functions, rather than making its small memory figures equivalent to smartphone specifications.

Read Cloud Apps as a service description

HMD describes its Cloud Phone Service as access to online services using shortcuts hosted in the cloud. The product page groups those services around entertainment, social networks, games, navigation and information. It does not provide a complete, fixed India catalogue with a support commitment for every individually named service.

The practical implication is to check the particular task that matters. A family member may want a cricket result or a weather update, rather than an open-ended collection of apps. Seeing the phrase Cloud Apps on the box does not establish that a familiar service has the same screens, functions or sign-in process as on another phone.

That is especially relevant when setting the device up for someone who has previously used only calling and SMS. Showing the route to the desired information is more useful than promising a smartphone experience. The shortcut is the doorway; the actual service and the person using the keypad determine whether that doorway solves the intended problem.

The memory figures belong to different jobs

The official technical sheet separates 16MB RAM from 24MB internal storage. It also lists expandable storage through a microSD card up to 32GB. These figures should stay separate when explaining the phone: a removable card adds media space, while the published RAM remains the RAM supplied with the handset.

The distinction is visible in HMD's own description of music. Users can put songs on a card and play them through the built-in MP3 player. HMD says that function requires a card, which is sold separately. Our Nokia 150 card guide examines the separate storage question on another model.

In a household setup, a prepared music card and an online information shortcut require different kinds of preparation. One starts with the listener's files; the other starts with an online service. Adding a card therefore should not be described as installing a larger app platform, nor as proof that every online feature has become available offline.

Keep 4G in the product name

The specification page lists GSM/LTE networks and dual nano-SIM slots. The full name matters because HMD also sells an HMD 101 without the 4G suffix. Our HMD 110 4G price guide covers the cost of a different 4G handset; this explainer addresses what the Cloud Apps description actually establishes.

For a phone being passed to a parent or another relative, writing down the complete model name avoids confusion later. Instructions for a similarly named basic handset may not describe the same menu or connection. This is a case where the small suffix is part of identifying the product, rather than an optional flourish in its name.

A compact keypad interface still sets the experience

The phone has a small display and physical buttons, with USB Type-C for charging. HMD also highlights a torch, radio and Snake. Those familiar functions help explain why this remains a feature phone even though it can open online content. The service description does not establish touchscreen navigation or the software environment of an Android handset.

Our HMD 102 4G replacement guide concerns a different model and a separate ownership question. For the 101 4G, the verified position is narrower: HMD advertises cloud-hosted online shortcuts alongside local features. This report has not tested individual services, measured their speed or confirmed that a particular account will work.
