Mid-Air Scare on IndiGo Flight to Varanasi After Passenger Attempts to Open Emergency Exit

Varanasi: A tense situation unfolded on an IndiGo flight headed to Varanasi when a passenger allegedly attempted to open the aircraft’s emergency exit shortly before landing, causing panic among passengers and crew.
According to initial reports, Flight 6E-185 had departed from Bengaluru at around 8:15 pm and was approaching Varanasi at approximately 10:20 pm when the incident occurred. Witnesses said the passenger tried to tamper with the emergency exit, alarming fellow passengers on board.
Sources indicated that the same passenger had reportedly attempted to interfere with the emergency exit within the first 15 minutes of the journey. At that time, cabin crew members managed to calm him down and the flight continued normally. However, as the aircraft began its descent towards Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, he allegedly made another attempt to open the exit door.
The cabin crew quickly intervened and restrained the passenger before alerting the pilot. Assessing the potential safety risk, the pilot decided to abort the landing and took the aircraft back into the air as a precautionary measure. Air Traffic Control was informed, and the aircraft remained in a holding pattern above the city for nearly 15 minutes before landing safely at around 10:35 pm.
After the plane landed, personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force took the passenger into custody. He was later identified as Mohammad Adnan.
During questioning, Adnan reportedly claimed that he did not understand why he had attempted to open the exit door and said he felt as if he was under the influence of a “supernatural presence.” Authorities have registered a case against him, and further investigation is currently underway.
Officials stated that the swift response of the cabin crew and pilot played a crucial role in preventing a potentially dangerous situation. The incident has once again highlighted concerns about in-flight passenger behavior and the importance of strict aviation safety protocols.
