MUMBAI: JSW MG Motor India will begin test drives and deliveries of the Hector Tomahawk PHEV from November 2026, with introductory ex-showroom prices from Rs 25.69 lakh and a limited Battery-as-a-Service option from Rs 21.79 lakh plus Rs 3.20 per km of battery rental. The figures and timeline are in MG's launch press release and on the PHEV product page.

The PHEV is sold only as a seven-seater. Exclusive and Essence trims are listed at Rs 25,69,800 and Rs 27,79,800 ex-showroom in the release's price table. Bookings are open at MG dealerships and on the company website.

Powertrain and range claims

MG pairs a 1.5-litre dedicated hybrid petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery and an electric motor. The product page quotes over 115 km of pure-electric range and over 1,100 km of combined range on a full tank and full charge, and lists Pure EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct drive modes. The release describes the electric motor at 148 kW in one section and the product FAQ cites 201 PS and 237 Nm for the motor, so buyers should match the brochure in hand at the dealer rather than mix figures from different blocks.

AC charging with the supplied 3.3 kW unit is quoted at about 7.5 hours from 10 to 100 per cent. DC fast charging at up to 25 kW is quoted at roughly 35 minutes from 30 to 80 per cent. Vehicle-to-Home capability is billed as an India first for the Tomahawk family.

Size, cabin and safety

The SUV is listed at 4,745 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,770 mm tall with a 2,810 mm wheelbase. Boot space is given as 192 litres with all rows up and 528 litres with the third row folded on the PHEV page. A 15.6-inch HD display, Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, 360-degree camera and i-SMART 3.0 with more than 80 connected features are part of the equipment story.

Lifetime battery warranty for the first owner is offered on both the EV and PHEV in the launch note. MG SHIELD for PHEV customers is described as a 3-3-3 package: three-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, three years of roadside assistance and three labour-free services.

Reading BaaS against full ownership

The Rs 21.79 lakh plus Rs 3.20/km BaaS tag applies to a limited number of bookings. Full ownership starts at Rs 25.69 lakh introductory ex-showroom. Both are ex-showroom, so on-road costs are higher. Waiting periods may apply by variant, MG says, and November is the start of test drives and deliveries, not a promise of same-week handover for every booking taken today.

Anyone comparing the PHEV with the Tomahawk EV should also note the EV's separate BaaS and full-ownership prices in the same release, because the two powertrains do not share a single sticker.

Parth Jindal, Director at JSW MG Motor India, and Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, both framed the Tomahawk as the first SUV on MG's ADAPT multi-NEV platform in the launch release. The PHEV is pitched at buyers who want electric commuting without giving up petrol for longer trips.

Plug-in hybrids make most sense for households that can charge at home overnight and still drive out of town on weekends. Without a dedicated parking charger, the PHEV will spend more time as a self-charging hybrid and the pure-electric range claim will matter less day to day.

Compare the BaaS kilometre rate against your annual running. High-mileage users can erase the headline BaaS saving if the per-km battery rental stacks up over a year, which is why MG limits the scheme to a set number of bookings.
