Start with the bill owner

The household decision is who will manage the connection, rather than simply how many phones need service. Put the account on the phone of the person who will regularly review the bill and manage allocations. A shared mobile bill needs an agreed owner, particularly if relatives have previously handled their own recharges.

Jio's family-plan setup FAQ directs customers to My Plans in MyJio, then Manage Family Plan. Enter the number being added, complete OTP validation and proceed. For a new child connection, the app provides onboarding codes for the delivery agent or Jio store official.

Do this with the intended member present and able to receive the verification message. After completion, check that the correct number appears in the family account. The useful record is the confirmed account arrangement, rather than a mental note that a SIM was purchased for a relative.

Allocate data around actual needs

Jio's separate data-sharing FAQ describes Share Data inside Manage Family Plan. Set the amount for the child account and proceed. That FAQ permits up to five transfers for each child account, although it does not specify a reset period in the answer, so that limit should not be described as daily or monthly.

A sensible household discussion separates routine use from exceptional use. Someone who usually works on home Wi-Fi may need a modest mobile allocation, while a relative travelling that month may need more. Agreeing that arrangement beforehand is easier than discovering during a journey that the expected allocation was never assigned.

The recurring-transfer FAQ adds another control: the primary holder can set a default allocation in MyJio, which the system transfers at the beginning of each bill cycle. This is useful for a stable household arrangement. Review those defaults when someone's routine changes, rather than assuming last month's division still makes sense.

Separate entry charges from recurring rent

Jio's security-deposit FAQ says the requirement depends on the customer's CIBIL score and may be waived. Any deposit collected is refundable. It separately lists an activation fee of Rs 99 for every new number, whether or not a deposit applies. A deposit waiver therefore does not remove that activation charge.

Ask the onboarding screen to show each component separately before completing the order. For the household budget, record recurring rent in one place and entry payments in another. This avoids treating an unusually large first payment as the normal monthly commitment, or overlooking a charge because a deposit was waived.

Readers comparing household services can also see our guides to JioFiber postpaid advance payments, Airtel Xstream Fiber prices and JioFiber entertainment tiers. Those concern fixed broadband, so their billing and entertainment benefits should be checked separately from this mobile account.

Before adding everyone, review the selected mobile plan and the current MyJio controls together. The tariff sheet establishes the rental calculation; the account screens establish how the family's numbers and data allocations have actually been configured.
