Jang Se LPG Supply Par Asar, Lekin India Taiyaar” – FM Nirmala Sitharaman Ka Lok Sabha Mein Bada Bayan

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed concerns over the LPG supply situation in Parliament, stating that global conflicts have created challenges but the government is taking steps to ensure uninterrupted cooking gas supply in India.
She explained that the ongoing tensions and war in West Asia have disrupted global energy supply chains, especially shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial route for LPG imports. India imports nearly 65% of its LPG requirement, and about 90% of those imports pass through this route, making the situation sensitive during geopolitical conflicts.
To tackle the situation, the government has increased domestic LPG production by around 25% and directed refineries and petrochemical units to maximise output by diverting other hydrocarbon streams into LPG production. The additional domestic output is being prioritised for household consumers to ensure that kitchens across the country are not affected.
The minister also reassured Parliament that contingency planning is already in place and India’s strengthened energy infrastructure and power sector will help manage any supply disruptions during the crisis.
Officials have urged citizens to use LPG responsibly and avoid panic buying while the government continues efforts to stabilise supply amid global uncertainties.
