GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram outlined a plan on Monday, October 26, 2026, to install 2,480 streetlights on 19 roads, covering footpaths and central verges used by pedestrians and motorists at night. The network includes Medanta Road, Sohna Road and routes linking HUDA City Centre with Signature Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road and Bakhtawar Singh Chowk.

Local media reports published on October 26 and 27 confirmed the total and the division of work: 2,050 lights for footpaths on 10 roads and 430 for the central verges of nine roads. Installation along the Medanta Road footpath has already been completed, according to the corporation's account in those reports.

Which roads are included

The footpath programme covers several connected routes around Bakhtawar Singh Chowk and Mayfield Garden. It includes the road from Bakhtawar Singh Chowk to the Medanta traffic signal, the link from Hero Honda Chowk to Bakhtawar Chowk, and Bakhtawar Chowk to Mayfield Garden Road.

The remaining footpath stretches listed are Mayfield Garden to Southern Peripheral Road, Sohna Road between Park Hospital and Mayfield Garden, Park Hospital Chowk to Southern Peripheral Road, and Dharam Marg. Together with the three routes starting at HUDA City Centre, these form the 10 roads identified for pedestrian lighting.

Central verge lighting has a separate list. It covers the roads dividing sectors 45 and 46, 45 and 53, 53 and 56, 44 and 52, 51 and 52, and 45 and 48. The route identified as 51-52-57, Gurugram University Road and the Sector 51-46 dividing road complete that list.

The distinction matters when checking a location: the programme identifies footpath work on some roads and lights in the middle of others. A road's inclusion does not mean that the same lighting arrangement is proposed along every part of it.

  • Total proposed: 2,480 streetlights on 19 roads.
  • Footpaths: 2,050 lights on 10 roads.
  • Central verges: 430 lights on nine roads.
  • Work reported complete: Medanta Road footpath lighting.

Residents can flag roads left out

MCG has asked residents to identify roads that need lighting but do not appear in the first phase. The corporation will consider those suggestions while drawing up a second phase, according to the reports. A suggestion is therefore a request for consideration, rather than confirmation that a road has been added.

Residents seeking the corporation's contact details can use the official MCG website and its contact directory. The directory lists the MCG helpline as 1800-180-1817. Those identifying a dark stretch can give its road name and nearest junction so the location is clear.

The stated purpose of the installation is to improve visibility for people walking and driving after dark. The announcement describes planned work across the wider network, with Medanta Road the specific footpath stretch reported finished. It does not establish that all 19 roads are already illuminated.
