Gemini Canvas prompts work best when you give the tool a clear document task, then edit one section at a time. For a college presentation, start with an outline or speaking script, open it in Canvas, and use focused instructions to improve the structure, evidence and wording. Google’s current help page says you can edit text directly, ask for changes to a selection and export the finished text to Google Docs.
This guide uses a five minute classroom presentation as a worked example. The five prompts below are original examples for planning and revision. They are not Google templates, and they have not been run in a signed in account. The menu sequence has been checked against the official help instructions available on 2 November 2026.
| Task | Canvas control |
|---|---|
| Start the document | Add Files, then Canvas |
| Revise one paragraph | Select text and enter an editing instruction |
| Review earlier drafts | Previous Version and Next Version |
| Continue in Docs | Share & export, then Export to Docs |
How to use Gemini Canvas for a presentation script
Google’s Canvas help page says you must be signed in to Gemini Apps. On the website, use the Add Files control below the prompt box and select Canvas. Type the document you want, include its format and purpose, and submit. You can optionally attach material you are permitted to use.
For this example, prepare your own short notes before opening the tool: the presentation question, the class level, the time available and the evidence your teacher expects. Remove private student details. An instruction such as “make a presentation” leaves the tool to guess the audience and the argument. A speaking script with explicit gaps is easier to inspect.
Prompt 1, build a speaking outline: “Create a five minute classroom presentation script about reducing food waste in a college canteen. Audience: first year students. Use an opening question, three main points and a closing action. Work only from the notes I paste below. Mark any missing evidence as EVIDENCE NEEDED. Do not invent statistics or quotations.” This gives the first draft a purpose while making unsupported additions visible.
Read the outline before asking for polished prose. Does it answer the assignment? Are two points saying the same thing? Is an example presented as a measured result? Correct those problems first. Five Gemini Canvas prompts for better revision
Prompt 2, revise a selected paragraph: “Rewrite only this selected paragraph for speaking aloud. Keep every factual claim unchanged. Use short sentences and explain unfamiliar terms. End with a question I can ask the class.” Highlight the relevant text in Canvas before sending it. Google documents selection editing, so you do not need to request a replacement of the whole script for a local change.
Prompt 3, check the argument: “Review this script as a presentation coach. List each claim that needs evidence, explain why the evidence matters, and suggest what kind of original source I should find. Do not supply facts from memory. Keep suggestions separate from the script.” Use the resulting list as a research checklist, then open the original documents yourself. An AI suggestion is not a verified reference.
Prompt 4, adapt the delivery: “Make this script conversational for a classroom audience. Keep the opening question and all source references. Remove repeated ideas. Flag any section that may need shortening for a five minute talk, but do not claim an exact speaking time.” Read the result aloud with your own timer. A neat word count cannot establish how quickly you will explain a diagram or answer a question.
Prompt 5, prepare the final outline: “Turn the approved script into a six slide planning outline. For each slide give a title, one central message, up to three brief points and speaker notes. Keep all EVIDENCE NEEDED markers. Do not create new claims.” This asks for planning text inside the document. It does not require you to use a separate slide generation feature.
The quick editing controls can adjust length and tone. You can also format headings, bold text and lists with the toolbar, with more options under More. Changes are saved automatically, and the help page describes Previous Version and Next Version controls for reviewing saved versions. Compare meaning as well as style when you review an edit.
How to export Gemini Canvas text to Google Docs
Open the chat containing your Canvas document, choose Share & export at the top right, then Export to Docs. Copy contents is another documented option. Before submitting the assignment, check names, numbers, quotations and references against the actual source material. Keep your own contribution clear and follow your institution’s rules on AI assistance.
