GATE 2027 Registration Opens August 14: Documents, Dates

Registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2027 will open on August 14 through the GATE Online Application Processing System. Indian nationals will be required to use a verified DigiLocker account during registration, making identity preparation an important first step before candidates begin the form.

The regular application window is scheduled to close on September 21, with an extended period carrying the prescribed late fee until September 30. The examination is planned over three weekends—February 6-7, 13-14 and 20-21, 2027—and results are due on March 19. The organising institute has marked parts of the calendar as tentative, so candidates should continue checking the official GATE 2027 portal.

An applicant may choose one paper or an allowed combination of two from the 30 papers in the brochure. The second paper is not a free choice from the entire list; only published combinations are permitted. Candidates should select according to the eligibility and admission rules of the departments or public-sector employers they are targeting. GATE may allow a paper choice that a particular postgraduate programme does not accept.

Before opening the form, Indian applicants should sign in to DigiLocker and make sure their name and date of birth are accurate. A mismatch across DigiLocker, photo identification and academic records can create avoidable verification work. Candidates should not give a coaching centre or cybercafé operator control of their DigiLocker credentials or one-time password.

The application will require personal and academic details, communication address, paper and examination-city choices, a recent photograph and signature. Depending on the candidate, a category certificate, PwD or UDID document, or dyslexia certificate may also be required. The photograph should follow the current specification and be no more than three months old, rather than a scan cropped from an old identity card.

GATE tests undergraduate-level understanding across engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts and humanities papers. Scores are used for postgraduate and doctoral admission, sometimes with financial assistance, and by several public-sector undertakings for recruitment. Qualifying the examination does not by itself guarantee admission, scholarship or employment; each institution applies its own cutoffs and conditions.

The city preference is also not the final centre address. Applicants should choose locations they can realistically reach, then wait for the city intimation and admit card before making precise local travel plans. The portal currently lists January 4 for city-allotment information, while the admit-card date is to be announced.

After payment, candidates should download the confirmation page and inspect every field. A transaction reference without a submitted application is not enough. If the system provides a correction window, it may not allow every detail to be changed and may charge for certain amendments.

The month-long regular window is ample only if candidates use it. DigiLocker verification, certificate renewal and image formatting can all take longer than expected. Completing those tasks now allows the actual form to become a careful academic choice rather than a last-night technology problem. Candidates should also keep the registered email address and mobile number active through the entire examination cycle.
