MUMBAI: Asian Paints reported consolidated revenue from operations of ₹9,976.51 crore for the September quarter, up 16.9% from ₹8,531.27 crore a year earlier. Profit attributable to owners rose 7.5% to ₹1,067.63 crore from ₹993.59 crore, according to results approved on October 29. Sales grew faster than profit as the paint maker reported lower operating margins.
The figures cover July to September 2026, the second quarter of FY2026-27. The board approved audited standalone accounts and unaudited consolidated accounts, which include subsidiaries and the group's share of associates' profits. Consolidated net sales were ₹9,953.89 crore. Other operating revenue of ₹22.62 crore takes that figure to the revenue-from-operations total.
The NSE quote page, timestamped October 30 at 3:35:49 pm IST, showed a last-traded price of ₹2,320, up ₹18, or 0.78%, from ₹2,302. Its closing-price field was still blank, so this is not a confirmed closing quote. The price movement does not establish that the results alone caused the change.
Volume growth and higher prices did not prevent margin pressure
In its October 29 investor presentation, Asian Paints reported 6.4% volume growth in India's decorative business and 14.5% revenue growth. The company attributed part of the revenue increase to pricing actions and said rural demand continued to outperform urban demand.
The presentation puts consolidated profit before depreciation, interest and tax, or PBDIT, at ₹1,557 crore, up 3.6%. Its margin fell to 15.6%, a decline of 202 basis points, or 2.02 percentage points. Consolidated gross margin was 39.6%, down 349 basis points. These measures describe different stages of profitability and are not the same as owners' net profit.
The statutory expense table shows the pressure in rupee terms. Total expenses increased 19.1% to ₹8,788.51 crore from ₹7,376.69 crore. Materials consumed rose to ₹5,084.28 crore from ₹3,760.24 crore, while employee costs increased to ₹775.64 crore from ₹686.22 crore. The company attributed margin pressure to raw-material inflation and said price increases only partly offset it.
Profit before tax increased to ₹1,477.78 crore from ₹1,391.52 crore, with no exceptional item recorded for either September quarter. Total profit after tax was ₹1,085.35 crore, including ₹17.72 crore attributable to non-controlling interests. Removing that minority share gives the ₹1,067.63 crore owners' profit used in the headline comparison. Separately, the parent company's standalone profit was ₹1,095.55 crore, compared with ₹956.28 crore. Those figures cover the parent company and should not replace the consolidated owners' profit comparison.
Overseas growth came with lower profit
The international business reported quarterly revenue of ₹1,096 crore, an increase of 30%, while constant-currency growth was 23.7%. Its profit before tax fell 31% to ₹53 crore and its PBT margin was 4.8%. The contrast shows that the overseas revenue increase did not produce a matching improvement in profitability.
The two industrial businesses also reported different profit outcomes. PPG Asian Paints recorded revenue of ₹795 crore, up 33.7%, and profit before tax of ₹113 crore, up 9.9%. Asian Paints PPG reported revenue of ₹375 crore, up 28%, but profit before tax fell 33.4% to ₹17 crore. These business-level figures should not be added mechanically to consolidated sales.
Half-year cash generation lagged earnings
For April to September, consolidated revenue from operations rose 17.5% to ₹20,518.45 crore from ₹17,469.82 crore. Owners' profit increased 24.5% to ₹2,606.88 crore from ₹2,093.36 crore. Basic earnings per share for the half year were ₹27.20, against ₹21.84. These are six-month figures, not annualised earnings.
Net cash generated from operating activities nevertheless fell to ₹1,899.83 crore from ₹3,482.26 crore. The cash-flow statement records an inventory increase absorbing ₹1,519.08 crore, compared with an inventory reduction releasing ₹708.44 crore a year earlier. This is a working-capital movement across the half year, separate from the quarter's profit figure.
Dividend dates confirmed
The board declared an interim dividend of ₹5.75 per ₹1 share. The record date is November 4, with payment on or after November 13. The payment wording does not promise that every shareholder will receive funds on November 13 itself.
The results add to the September-quarter reporting covered in Dalimss News's articles on Trent's accounts and Coal India's earnings. Asian Paints' original announcement remains dated October 29; the October 30 share-price snapshot is a separate market observation.
