NEW DELHI: Ashok Leyland specifies a rated payload of 1,120 kg for the Saathi, alongside a cargo deck measuring 2,500 mm by 1,620 mm by 380 mm. Those figures describe different limits: the payload concerns weight, while the deck dimensions describe the space available for a consignment.

| Gross vehicle weight | 2,288 kg |
| Cargo deck, length by width by height | 2,500 x 1,620 x 380 mm |
| Loading height | 835 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,250 mm |
| Engine | 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo diesel |
| Power | 45 HP at 3,300 rpm |
| Torque | 110 Nm at 1,000 to 2,400 rpm |

Weight and space answer different questions
The most useful starting point for a Saathi load plan is the consignment itself. Its total weight and its external dimensions need separate entries. A pile of empty crates and a compact stack of dense building material can occupy similar space while placing very different demands on the vehicle.
That distinction is particularly relevant to the applications Ashok Leyland identifies for this model: logistics, FMCG, agricultural work and fisheries. The Saathi page does not publish a universal crate count for those jobs. A figure for the number of boxes per trip would require the size and weight of the actual boxes.
The deck's published height is not a declaration that every consignment can be stacked to an arbitrary height above the sides. Nor does a weight rating establish how loose cargo should be secured. The figures form part of a vehicle specification; they do not replace the loading instructions for the particular goods and body.
Read the deck alongside the vehicle's footprint
Ashok Leyland lists an overall length of 4,406 mm and overall width of 1,663 mm. The wheelbase and loading height add further detail to that footprint. For a delivery record, these measurements are more informative than describing the vehicle simply as a small truck.
A loading bay can have enough room for the cab while still requiring space for people to work around the deck. Similarly, the published deck width alone cannot establish whether a particular pallet or crate arrangement will fit with its restraints. That assessment needs the actual packaging and access arrangement.
The loading height is also a separate measurement from the side-panel height. Confusing them would give a misleading picture of how a worker reaches the goods. A stock-handling plan should identify the relevant measurement explicitly rather than placing an unexplained height figure on a dispatch sheet.
The drivetrain belongs in the same operating record
The Saathi has a manual gearbox with five forward ratios and reverse, with cable gear shifting. Its published engine torque band and maximum-power point are separate specifications. Neither establishes a measured fuel-consumption result for a delivery round, so this guide does not attach a mileage saving to the cargo figures.
The manufacturer specifies vacuum-assisted hydraulic brakes, with discs at the front and drums at the rear. It also lists parabolic leaf springs and shock absorbers. These are model details, rather than a reason to increase the load beyond the published rating or infer how the truck will behave on an untested route.
Cab seating needs its own attention. The Saathi is listed for a driver and a passenger, so a goods-handling plan cannot assume additional workers travel in the cab. The cargo specification and the seating specification should both be recorded when a delivery task is assigned.
Keep the model name attached to the figures
Saathi figures should not be borrowed from another Ashok Leyland product because the trucks share a badge. The manufacturer's broader range contains different bodies and capacities. Even within a delivery business, using a generic truck entry can hide the specification of the vehicle actually sent to collect a load.
