NEW DELHI: Harley-Davidson lists a 102 mm colour TFT display on its 2026 Sportster S, with Bluetooth phone pairing for calls, music and navigation. Its India specification explicitly ties navigation to the H-D App. Owners should check that app requirement during handover rather than assume the round screen has a self-contained navigation service.

Demonstrate the full connection while parked

Ask for a handover demonstration using the phone you intend to carry. Establish which application the demonstrator is using and which functions appear on the motorcycle display. The purpose is to see the complete chain of devices and settings, rather than accept a generic statement that the screen supports Bluetooth.

Keep the motorcycle stationary while familiarising yourself with its controls. Ask how to identify the connected phone and how to reconnect after the motorcycle has been switched off. If a connection fails during the demonstration, note which part failed: the phone connection, the app or the information appearing on the display. That description will be useful at a later service visit.

Separate navigation from a phone connection

The H-D App qualification is the key limit in the published navigation description. A successful phone pairing does not by itself demonstrate that a route has been configured or that navigation is ready. Ask the representative to show the supported process on the motorcycle and explain which steps belong on the phone before starting a journey.

For an Indian rider planning an unfamiliar urban route, this is a practical handover issue. Check what the screen actually presents and what remains on the phone, then decide where to keep the phone securely. Do not wait until departure to discover that the demonstration used a different app or a different phone configuration.

Ask specifically about your intended journey and device settings, without assuming offline maps or uninterrupted operation. The product specification does not explain offline navigation, mobile-data consumption or compatibility with every handset. Those are questions to resolve through the current app information and a demonstration, rather than capabilities to infer from the TFT size.

Understand what the headset contributes

Harley-Davidson lists Bluetooth for headset specifications and identifies rider/passenger intercom as a headset function only. That distinction should shape the equipment demonstration. If you intend to use an intercom, bring the headset details into the conversation and ask how that function is provided, instead of treating it as a feature built into the motorcycle screen.

Calls, media and navigation also deserve separate checks. Ask the demonstrator to show the supported controls for each while parked, including how to leave a menu and return to normal vehicle information. Familiarity with one audio function does not establish that the rest have been configured in the same way.

USB charging and updates are different jobs

The USB specification names charging and instrument updates. It does not provide an update procedure, a software release number or a list of applicable files. Use the manufacturer's current support instructions for an update and confirm the motorcycle and instrument version before proceeding. A USB-C connector alone is not an instruction to install a file.

This is a performance motorcycle whose compact round screen combines vehicle information with connected functions. That makes a calm, stationary handover particularly valuable: establish the normal riding display first, then add phone and headset features. Keep notes about the demonstrated setup so a future change of phone does not become a fresh attempt to identify every setting.
