NEW DELHI: Archer AX23 owners should match their router to the V1, V1.20 or V2 hardware branch on TP-Link India's download page before installing firmware. The page opens on V2, but that default is not evidence that an AX23 already in your home is the same revision. Read the label first, then select the matching branch.
| Item | Official detail |
|---|---|
| Model | Archer AX23, AX1800 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router |
| Hardware choices on India support page | V1, V1.20 and V2 |
| V2 file shown | Archer AX23(US)_V2_1.1.2 Build 20250814 |
| Release date shown for that file | 5 September 2025 |
| V2 release note | VPN kill switch added; stability and security enhancements |
| Rollback warning for that release | Cannot be downgraded to the previous version |
Read the label before choosing a download
Look underneath or behind the router for the hardware version beside the model and serial details. TP-Link uses a Ver or V marking. Its hardware identification guide also describes checking the management interface. Write down the full model, hardware revision and region marking together, rather than relying on a photograph of the box front.
The distinction matters because Archer AX23 is the product name, while a hardware revision identifies a particular physical version. Installing software does not turn older hardware into the revision selected on a website. Keep those separate in your notes: the firmware number can change after an update, while the hardware identity remains your starting point.
The India page also explains some suffix equivalences, including V1.8 with V1.0 and V1.28 with V1.20. Use the mapping printed on the official page for your label. Do not assume that every number beginning with the same digit belongs in the same download branch, especially when V1 and V1.20 are separate choices.
Treat the region warning as part of the instructions
There is an easily missed detail here: the default India V2 page displays a firmware filename carrying the US region identifier. That is what the page shows, not a recommendation to install that file on every Indian AX23. TP-Link separately requires firmware from the purchase location and warns that mismatched firmware can damage the device and affect warranty cover.
If the region on your unit does not clearly match the offered file, stop before uploading it and resolve that mismatch through official product documentation or support. A support page being reachable is only the beginning of the check. The filename, selected hardware branch and device label must tell a consistent story.
Prepare the connection, then follow the matching update route
TP-Link recommends a wired connection for a manual upload when Ethernet is available and says not to interrupt power during the upgrade. Extract the downloaded archive first. Its router update guide describes selecting the extracted BIN file under Advanced, System, Firmware Upgrade, then confirming the upload and waiting for the router to finish rebooting.
For routers supporting online updates, the guide describes an Update notification in the web interface and a Tether route through More, System, Firmware Update. Read the release notes before confirming. Menu layouts may differ, so follow the guide that matches your interface rather than forcing a sequence intended for a different screen.
Make a configuration backup before starting and retain your broadband setup details. This is particularly useful if the AX23 sits between an operator's equipment and the household network. Check the internet connection, your normal Wi-Fi name and any camera or television connections after the reboot, while there is still time to investigate an unexpected change.
Why the AX1800 label does not identify the right file
The AX23 product page lists up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Those radio specifications explain the AX1800 class; they cannot identify a firmware branch. This is the model-specific trap: a speed badge is prominent in shopping listings, while the revision needed for maintenance is on the device and support selector.
