CHENNAI: Zoho used a 23 September 2026 briefing to push two bets at once: Zia Chat, a single AI interface meant to sit across its business apps, and a first wave of vertical software aimed at Indian industry workflows rather than generic CRM screens.

Sridhar Vembu, chief scientist and co-founder, said the company wants to “commoditise intelligence so customers can get work done, without incurring high costs on tokens.” Zia Chat is scheduled for early access in about a month, starting in English, and is described as model-agnostic so firms can pick the underlying models they already trust.

Zia Chat: one AI window across Zoho apps

Zoho’s pitch is blunt about interface fatigue. Staff jump between sales, support, HR and finance tools hunting for context. Zia Chat is supposed to strip those separate UIs into one conversation that can find records, raise leads, close tickets, draft mail, assign tasks and turn data into charts, sheets or decks.

Users can switch role-based “Profiles” and hand multi-step jobs to “Zia Agents.” The company says responses can be traced to underlying records, existing permissions and approval flows still apply, and data touched by Zia Chat is not used to train Zoho’s own models. External systems can be reached through MCP-style integrations where admins allow it.

Vembu called the status quo an “interface crisis,” arguing people waste time hunting for the right context. Whether Zia Chat actually cuts token bills will depend on how much work stays inside Zoho’s own stack versus how often agents call expensive external models for edge cases.

Seven vertical products, from retail to restaurants

Beside the chat layer, Zoho listed seven industry products. Zoho RetailIQ targets physical retail CRM. Zoho AutoDMS covers automotive dealership management. Zoho LOS is a loan origination system for banks, NBFCs and insurers from application to disbursement.

In healthcare, MedScribe is an AI clinical documentation tool that Zoho says aligns with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and turns doctor–patient conversations into structured notes. Zoho Campus, launching first in India, bundles admissions, fees, attendance and timetables. A real-estate suite manages the sales cycle from lead to closure. Zoho POS for Restaurants will be free for outlets billing up to Rs 12 lakh a year.

The company tied the push to strong India growth: it said India revenue rose 47 per cent year-on-year in 2025 across Workplace, Zoho One, CRM, Books and People, with traction in ITeS, manufacturing, BFSI, professional services, retail and automotive. Zoho employs more than 19,000 people and serves over 150 million users on infrastructure it owns and operates, according to the briefing.

For Indian SMEs, the near-term questions are pricing for each vertical SKU, how MedScribe handles consent in clinics, and whether Zia Chat’s early-access cohort can prove lower token spend on real tickets—not demo prompts. Vertical software is a different wager from another horizontal CRM seat. Dealerships, clinics, campuses and small restaurants run on stubborn, local workflows. Zoho’s list tries to meet those workflows with named products instead of asking every buyer to customise a generic suite. MedScribe’s ABDM alignment and the free restaurant POS tier up to Rs 12 lakh annual billing are the clearest India-specific hooks in the announcement.

Execution risk sits in sales and support. Seven industry launches on one day can blur into a catalogue if product teams do not ship deep connectors for GST invoices, lending compliance or campus fee reconciliations. Buyers will also ask how Zia Chat behaves when a vertical app holds the system of record that a generic Zoho CRM screen never saw.

Zoho’s ownership of its data centres remains part of its public pitch to Indian enterprises that want a domestic software vendor. Zia Chat’s early-access clock—about a month from the briefing—gives customers a short window to line up pilot teams. The useful review will compare a week of real support tickets handled in Zia Chat against the same week in the old multi-app grind.
