After a brief period of relief due to sunshine, cold conditions are expected to return across Purvanchal, including Varanasi.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert from January 14 to January 18, warning of a possible increase in cold conditions, fog, and cold winds due to an approaching western disturbance.
According to weather officials, snowfall in the hilly regions and the movement of a western disturbance are likely to affect the plains over the coming days.
As a result, cold winds may increase, leading to a drop in perceived temperatures and a rise in morning fog. Visibility may be affected in several areas, especially during early hours, which could impact daily activities and travel.
Recent weather data shows that temperatures had risen slightly above normal, providing temporary relief from cold conditions. However, meteorologists indicate that this phase is likely to end soon as atmospheric changes move toward eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Residents are advised to remain cautious during foggy conditions and stay updated with official weather advisories during the alert period.
