Varanasi: In an effort to manage rising traffic congestion around the popular Namo Ghat, traffic police in Varanasi have implemented a new one-way traffic system for vehicles heading towards the ghat.

Under the revised arrangement, vehicles will be allowed to enter Namo Ghat through the designated route, while the exit has been redirected via Gate No. 3 of Bhainsasur Ghat towards Bhadau Chungi. The move aims to streamline vehicle movement and reduce traffic pressure caused by the increasing number of visitors to the ghat area.

Officials stated that encroachments near the Bhainsasur Temple area are slowing down traffic flow. Authorities are working in coordination with the Varanasi Municipal Corporation to address these issues and improve road conditions.

In recent months, Namo Ghat has become one of the most popular tourist and local attractions in Varanasi, especially after the launch of the evening Ganga Aarti and the introduction of cruise and motorboat services on the Ganges. Additionally, the presence of a CNG filling station at the ghat has led to a steady flow of autos and private vehicles, further increasing traffic load during peak hours.

To prevent traffic jams, the traffic department has also imposed restrictions on heavy and unauthorized vehicles during peak times. Between 6 PM and 8 PM in the evening and 8 AM to 10 AM in the morning, goods carriers and unauthorized vehicles will not be allowed on certain routes near the ghat. During morning hours, school vehicles will be given priority to ensure smoother movement.

Traffic police officials have stated that the new system will be strictly enforced to maintain order and ensure safe and smooth movement of vehicles around the busy ghat area.
