Students in Varanasi intensified their protest against the proposed UGC Bill as a large-scale protest march and memorandum submission were organized at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith from 10 a.m. onwards. Raising slogans and carrying placards, the students expressed strong opposition to the draft regulations, calling them discriminatory and harmful to the interests of marginalized communities and the future of higher education.

The protestors stated that the UGC Bill, in its present form, threatens the principles of social justice, academic autonomy, and equal opportunity. They demanded an immediate rollback of the draft and urged the authorities to hold wider consultations with students, teachers, and academic experts before implementing any such policy. A memorandum highlighting their concerns was submitted to the university administration, seeking its intervention and support.

Amid the ongoing nationwide debate, the latest observations by the Supreme Court have added a new dimension to the issue, giving fresh momentum to the students’ movement. Protest leaders said they would continue their democratic struggle until their voices are heard and concrete assurances are given. The demonstration remained peaceful, reflecting the students’ resolve to safeguard constitutional values and the future of India’s education system.
