VARANASI: The skies of Varanasi turned colorful today as the Municipal Corporation launched a grand Kite Festival to celebrate the upcoming Makar Sankranti. mirroring the enthusiasm of the Kite Festival organized by PM Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad.
16 Teams in the Fray: A total of 16 teams have registered for the competition, showcasing their skills and traditional kite-fighting techniques. The atmosphere is electric, with citizens cheering for the 'pecha' (kite cutting battles) in the sky.
Mobiles vs. Manjha: Participants expressed joy at seeing the youth embrace the tradition. One participant interestingly remarked, "There was a time we got beaten by parents for flying kites all day. Today, kids get beaten for being on mobile phones. It is refreshing to see youngsters come out and enjoy this heritage sport of Banaras."
The Grand Finale: The competition is fierce, with a cash prize of ₹51,000 announced for the winner. The final matches will be played tomorrow (Wednesday), where the ultimate champion of the Kashi skies will be crowned.
