Varanasi School Students Learn Art Of Manuscript Conservation At IIT-BHU Workshop
VARANASI: In a unique initiative to connect the younger generation with India's intellectual history, a two-day workshop titled "India's Manuscript Heritage" commenced at IIT-BHU on Tuesday.
Venue: The event is being held at the Dev and Vardhana Goswami Hall, organized by the Department of Humanistic Studies, IIT-BHU.
Participants: Around 70 students from classes 6 to 8 are participating to learn about the preservation of ancient texts.
Objective: Coordinator Prof. Vinita Chandra explained that the goal is to create awareness about manuscript heritage, teach basic conservation skills, and introduce students to potential career paths in manuscriptology.
Key Activities & Speakers:
Field Trip: The students were taken on an educational tour of the BHU Central Library.
Expert Insights: Chief Guest Prof. Gopbandhu Mishra (former VC, Somnath Sanskrit University) spoke on how the oral tradition (Shruti/Parampara) was documented into scripts. Special guest Aditya Vikram Agarwal highlighted the importance of manuscripts in preserving business knowledge. Department Head Prof. PK Panda emphasized the evolution of record-keeping and manuscript culture.
