Varanasi: In a major step to protect devotees from cheating and harassment, the Varanasi Police Commissionerate has installed public awareness boards near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, warning people to remain alert against middlemen operating in the name of temple darshan.

The notice clearly advises devotees to stand in the designated queues and follow the official system for smooth and hassle-free darshan. It also urges pilgrims not to fall prey to brokers who demand money in exchange for special or faster entry.

To strengthen enforcement and quick grievance redressal, contact numbers of senior police officials including the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Station House Officer, and the local outpost in-charge of Dashashwamedh have been prominently displayed on the boards. Devotees have been encouraged to immediately report any suspicious activity or involvement of middlemen.

Police officials stated that this initiative aims to ensure a safe, fair, and transparent darshan system, especially during peak pilgrimage days, weekends, and festivals when heavy crowds are witnessed near the temple premises.

The move has been welcomed by pilgrims, who said that such steps will help maintain order and improve the overall experience at one of the country’s most revered religious sites.
