Varanasi Police Destroy 7,220 Litres of Illicit Liquor Near Latuveer Temple

Varanasi: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor trade, the Varanasi Police and the excise department jointly destroyed 7,220 litres of illicit liquor on Wednesday. The action was carried out following court orders at a designated site near Latuveer Temple in the Lanka police station area, under strict security arrangements.
The seized liquor had been recovered from various locations during a special enforcement drive conducted in 2024. After confiscation, the liquor was stored in the police malkhana as per legal norms. Once permission for disposal was granted by the court, authorities proceeded with the destruction in accordance with prescribed procedures.
At the designated site, liquor bottles, pouches, and packets were crushed using JCB and road roller machines. To ensure complete transparency, the entire destruction process was videographed, and all necessary documentation was completed on the spot. Officials stated that the move was aimed at sending a strong message against the illegal liquor network and preventing such activities in the future.
Senior police and excise officials supervised the operation, including ACP Kashi Zone Vaibhav Bangar, ACP Bhelupur Gaurav Kumar, Lanka Station House Officer Rajkumar, Malkhana in-charge Head Constable Rahul Rai, and Excise Inspector Krishna Kumar Mishra along with other department personnel.
Authorities reiterated that similar strict actions would continue as part of the ongoing drive to curb illegal liquor production, storage, and distribution in Varanasi.
