A major cleanliness drive has officially begun in Varanasi as the Municipal Corporation launched a 15-day Swachhta Campaign aimed at improving sanitation and increasing public participation across the city.

The campaign focuses on cleaning streets, markets, public places, residential colonies, and other crowded areas while encouraging citizens to actively contribute towards maintaining a healthier and cleaner urban environment. Civic authorities stated that the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen cleanliness standards and improve waste management systems in the city.

As part of the campaign, dedicated sanitation teams have been formed in various wards of Varanasi to monitor cleanliness activities, spread awareness among residents, and ensure regular cleaning operations. These teams will work closely with local communities to identify problem areas and promote better sanitation practices.

Officials have appealed to residents, shopkeepers, students, social organizations, and local communities to actively participate in the campaign. Authorities emphasized that public cooperation is essential to transform Varanasi into one of the cleanest cities in India.

The 15-day initiative will also feature awareness drives, public participation programs, waste disposal activities, and campaigns promoting responsible garbage management. Municipal officials believe that sustained public involvement can help maintain long-term cleanliness and improve the city’s overall environment.

The campaign comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Municipal Corporation to strengthen sanitation infrastructure and encourage civic responsibility among citizens. Residents across different areas of Varanasi are expected to take part in the drive over the coming days.
