Varanasi Gas Booking Issue: OTP Problem Leads to Crowd at Agency, Officials Say No LPG Shortage
Residents in Varanasi faced inconvenience on Thursday after a gas booking issue led to a large number of consumers gathering outside a local LPG agency. Many people reported that they were unable to complete cylinder bookings because the required OTP (one-time password) was not being received on their mobile phones.
According to consumers present at the agency, the technical problem prevented them from booking cylinders through the usual system. As word of the issue spread, several customers reached the agency seeking clarification and assistance. Within a short time, a large crowd formed at the premises, prompting authorities to call police personnel to manage the situation and maintain order.
When Dalimss News interacted with people present at the location, several consumers said the agency staff were giving them booking numbers and asking them to collect cylinders from the godown. However, when customers reached the godown, they were reportedly told to bring a slip issued by the agency. Consumers claimed that this slip was not being provided, leading to confusion and repeated visits between the agency and the godown.
Locals said the issue has caused particular concern as the festival of Eid al-Fitr is approaching. Many residents observing Roza said preparations for iftar meals could be affected if cylinder bookings are delayed.
Meanwhile, LPG distributors have maintained that there is no shortage of cylinders in the city and that the issue appears to be related to the booking process rather than supply.
District authorities have also urged people not to panic. Satyendra Kumar confirmed that there is no shortage of diesel, petrol, or LPG cylinders in the district and that supplies are functioning normally. He also warned that the administration is closely monitoring rumours and black marketing, and strict action, including FIRs, may be taken against anyone spreading false information or creating unnecessary panic.
Officials have advised residents to rely on verified information and contact their respective gas agencies or helplines for assistance with booking-related issues.
