Kashi to Launch Month-Long Communicable Disease Control Drive from July 1

Varanasi, June 24: Varanasi district is preparing to launch a month-long communicable disease control campaign from July 1, with health and civic departments expected to focus on prevention, surveillance and public awareness during the monsoon season.
The campaign is scheduled to run from July 1 to July 31. A more focused Dastak campaign will take place from July 11 to July 31, according to reports. The drive will focus on dengue, malaria, filaria and other vector-borne or seasonal communicable diseases that often become a concern during the rainy season.
Campaign to Run Through July
The district-level campaign will involve coordinated work by the health department and supporting civic departments. Officials have reviewed preparations for sanitation, anti-larval measures, fogging, drain cleaning and monitoring of mosquito-prone areas.
Reports said special attention will be given to both rural and urban locations where stagnant water, poor drainage or seasonal crowding can increase the risk of disease spread. Health teams are also expected to keep watch for fever and symptoms linked to infectious diseases.
Focus on Dengue, Malaria and Filaria
The July campaign will focus on prevention and early response. Dengue and malaria are among the key mosquito-borne diseases that usually require close monitoring during the monsoon months. Filaria, kala-azar and other infectious diseases are also part of the wider public health surveillance effort.
Under the Dastak campaign, frontline workers such as ASHA and Anganwadi workers are expected to carry out door-to-door awareness activities. The public messaging will likely include advice on preventing stagnant water, maintaining cleanliness, identifying symptoms early and seeking timely medical help.
Why Monsoon Preparedness Matters
Monsoon conditions can create breeding grounds for mosquitoes in open containers, waterlogged areas, blocked drains, ponds, discarded tyres and uncovered storage vessels. Local prevention work becomes important because small lapses at household and neighbourhood level can quickly increase disease risk.
Officials are expected to focus on anti-larval spraying, fogging and sanitation at disease-sensitive locations. Repair of handpumps, cleaning of drains and removal of roadside vegetation have also been listed among the measures to reduce mosquito breeding.
Public Awareness to Play Key Role
The success of the campaign will depend not only on official action but also on public cooperation. Residents should avoid allowing water to collect in coolers, pots, tyres, buckets and open containers. Fever, body ache, chills, rashes or prolonged weakness should not be ignored during the monsoon season.
The campaign is expected to bring multiple departments together for prevention, awareness and early treatment. For Varanasi, the July drive is a timely attempt to strengthen preparedness before seasonal infections peak.
