Varanasi Anganwadis Plan Aangan Ka Utsav From September 25

VARANASI: Anganwadi centres across the district are preparing for Aangan Ka Utsav, a programme scheduled from September 25 to October 7. A healthy-child competition, nutrition activities and community meetings form part of the plan reported on Sunday, September 13.

District Programme Officer D. K. Singh said mothers of children placed first, second and third in the competition would receive recognition. Assessment is to cover growth, hygiene, nutrition and health-related criteria.

The district has 3,914 anganwadi centres, with approximately 1.21 lakh children aged three to six receiving preschool education, according to the programme account. Child Development Project Officers and supervisors have been assigned responsibility for the activities.

The schedule also includes food demonstrations, supplementary nutrition distribution, dialogue with families and recognition of ASHA workers, anganwadi workers, helpers and participating mothers. The intention is to make the centres’ work more visible within the communities they serve.

More than a competition

The Ministry of Women and Child Development describes six services within Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0: supplementary nutrition, informal preschool education, nutrition and health education, immunisation, health check-ups and referral support.

The health-related components are delivered with the public health system. This is an important distinction for families: an anganwadi is a point connecting several services, not a replacement for a hospital or an individual medical consultation.

The ministry also identifies early childhood care and education as a foundation for later learning. In that setting, a community programme can introduce parents to activities and support that continue beyond the dates of a festival or competition.
