Uttar Pradesh to Get Six New Highway Corridors, Boosting North–South Connectivity

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a major infrastructure push with the proposed construction of six new north–south highway corridors, aimed at improving connectivity and easing movement across multiple districts of the state.
According to the proposal, the corridors will significantly enhance road travel between northern and southern regions of Uttar Pradesh, making transportation smoother for commuters and facilitating faster movement of goods. The project is expected to benefit several districts by reducing travel time and improving access to economic and industrial hubs.
The proposal for the North–South Corridor Project has received in-principle approval, and preparations are underway to secure cabinet clearance. Once approved, construction is expected to be completed within two years.
Officials stated that the corridors will be developed in phases, with different stretches being constructed by agencies including the Public Works Department (PWD) and NHAI, depending on the segment. Some sections will involve upgrading existing highways, while others will be newly constructed.
Key Corridors Highlighted
Kushinagar–Varanasi Corridor: Connecting Kushinagar, Deoria, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, and Varanasi, spanning approximately 220 km.
Shravasti–Prayagraj Corridor: Covering Shravasti, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, and Prayagraj, with a total length of around 262 km.
Other corridors will link major districts across eastern, central, and western Uttar Pradesh, strengthening statewide road infrastructure.
The government believes that these corridors will accelerate economic activities, improve regional development, and create employment opportunities. Better road connectivity is also expected to support tourism, trade, and emergency services.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reportedly emphasized fast-tracking the project, directing officials to ensure timely approvals and execution.
Once completed, the six corridors are expected to transform road travel in Uttar Pradesh, providing a seamless north–south transportation network across the state.
