UP Govt Renames Two Villages Ahead of Panchayat Polls; ‘Urmura Kirar’ Now Harinagar, ‘Hajipur’ Becomes Siyarampur

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the renaming of two villages in the state just ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections, officials confirmed. The decision was taken in response to long-standing local demands and cultural considerations.
Under the new order, the village of Urmura Kirar in the Shikohabad tehsil and Vasudevmai Gram Panchayat of Firozabad district will officially be known as Harinagar. Likewise, the Hajipur Gram Panchayat located in the Bhrawan development block of Hardoi district has been renamed Siyarampur.
The state government’s announcement noted that both changes were made following requests from local residents and leaders, who felt the new names better reflected their cultural heritage and community identity. Authorities have also directed district officials to begin updating administrative records, signage, and official documentation to reflect the new village names.
Local representatives and villagers have welcomed the decision, calling it a recognition of local sentiment. They said the renaming honors historical and cultural values while strengthening community pride.
This move is part of a broader trend in Uttar Pradesh, where the government has previously changed place names to reflect historical and cultural narratives, including renaming larger cities and regions in recent years.
