UP Government Declares 15 January Public Holiday for Makar Sankranti.

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has issued a revised order regarding the Makar Sankranti holiday.
The Change: Previously, January 14, 2026, was marked as a restricted (optional) holiday. However, amending this decision, the administration has now declared January 15 (Thursday) as a full public holiday.
What Remains Closed: Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, all government offices, schools, colleges, and banks across the state will remain closed on January 15.
Holiday Count: With this declaration, the total number of public holidays in UP for 2026 has increased from 25 to 26. Consequently, the number of restricted holidays has come down to 31. The decision was taken after reconsidering the date of the festival to ensure a uniform holiday across the state.
