Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman visited Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi to review the ongoing redevelopment work and alleged demolition of heritage structures. He reached the ghat by boat and inspected the site where damaged idols were reportedly found.

Addressing party workers later, Suman accused the government of hiding facts and misleading the public. He rejected claims that the damaged idols were created using artificial intelligence, calling them far from reality. He said that while the President speaks about protecting heritage, the ruling party is allegedly destroying ancient sites in Kashi.

Referring to an earlier incident where an SP delegation was stopped from visiting the area, Suman said elected representatives are being prevented from accessing ground realities. He questioned why leaders are restricted from inspecting public projects.

The MP also expressed concern over the demolition of structures linked to Ahilyabai Holkar’s legacy, calling it unfortunate and harmful to India’s cultural heritage. He demanded transparency and urged the government to protect religious and historical sites instead of damaging them in the name of development.
