Police Raid 18 Spas at Sapphire 90 Mall

GURUGRAM: A joint team of Gurugram Police and the Haryana State Commission for Women raided 18 spa centres at Sapphire 90 Mall in Sector 90 late Friday night, after taking suo motu cognizance of suspected illegal activities at the establishments.

The operation began around 10 pm on Friday and continued until about 3 am on Saturday. Nearly 100 police personnel, including around 20 inspectors and sub-inspectors, took part. It was supervised by Abhilaksh Joshi, HPS, ACP Headquarters-I, who is also the designated Special Police Officer under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. Commission chairperson Usha Priyadarshini and her team were present, along with a duty magistrate.

What police say they found

Some centres were locked from the outside. Officers opened the locks and entered. Prima facie evidence of suspected illegal activity was recorded at eight of the 18 centres, police said. Electronic and digital devices, physical material and documents were seized for examination to map any alleged network of owners, operators, managers and facilitators.

About 30 women and 20 men were found on the premises. Police said the women are being questioned to understand their circumstances and to identify anyone who may have facilitated the activities. The role of the men found present is also being verified. Legal action will follow on the basis of evidence, a senior officer said.

Gurugram Police stated that the force maintains zero tolerance toward organised illegal activities carried out under the guise of legitimate commercial establishments. Further investigation is underway. Follow-up work has been assigned to Kherki Daula police station, which covers the Sector 90 area.

Commercial spa clusters inside large malls have repeatedly drawn enforcement attention across the National Capital Region when complaints or intelligence point to activities beyond licensed wellness services. Friday night's simultaneous checks were designed to leave little room for operators to tip one another off once the first centre was entered. Mall management and licensed spa owners who run compliant wellness services often say such raids also put pressure on them to prove paperwork, staff age records and CCTV retention schedules.

For residents and mall visitors, the practical takeaway is simpler. Late-night spa corridors that stay crowded after regular retail floors shut will see more police presence in the coming days. Anyone with information about the Sector 90 centres or related premises has been asked to contact local police. Allegations remain under investigation and are subject to formal charges after evidence is weighed. No conviction has been recorded at this stage. Subsequent questioning over the weekend has already pointed investigators toward other premises outside the mall, showing how a single overnight operation can open a wider trail.
