Members of the Samajwadi Party women’s wing staged a protest in Varanasi on Tuesday (March 18), alleging serious irregularities in the supply of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders across parts of the state.

The demonstration was organized under the direction of the state president of the party’s women’s wing, Reebu Srivastava. Several women leaders and party workers gathered in the city and raised slogans against the government, demanding immediate action to resolve the problem.

During the protest, participants claimed that the shortage and irregular distribution of LPG cylinders had created major difficulties for both households and businesses. They said restaurants, dhabas and small hotels in particular were facing severe challenges due to the limited availability of commercial cylinders, which they rely on for daily operations.

According to the protesters, many small establishments are struggling to keep their kitchens running and some have even been forced to temporarily shut down. They warned that if the issue continues, workers employed in these establishments could lose their jobs.

The demonstrators accused the authorities of failing to ensure a smooth distribution system and demanded that the government take urgent steps to stabilize the supply chain. They also called for stricter monitoring to prevent alleged black marketing and irregularities in LPG distribution.

The protest comes amid wider concerns over LPG availability in several regions, where reports of supply disruptions and long waiting times have surfaced in recent weeks.

Party workers said they would continue to raise the issue until the government ensures regular gas supply and addresses the problems faced by consumers and small businesses.
