Safety Concerns Rise at Baijnath Temple in Varanasi as Damaged Entrance Slabs Pose Collapse Risk

Varanasi: A serious safety concern has surfaced at the entrance of the ancient Baijnath Temple, a temple in Varanasi that is believed by many devotees to be associated with one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
Local residents and temple authorities have raised alarm after several stone slabs above the temple’s main entrance reportedly loosened and partially broke. According to those familiar with the situation, the damaged slabs could collapse at any time, posing a significant risk to devotees and visitors entering the temple.
Concerned about public safety, locals have installed temporary barricading near the entrance to prevent people from standing directly beneath the damaged structure. Residents say the measure is only a temporary solution and that permanent repairs are urgently required.
The temple priest, along with residents of the surrounding area, has already submitted a written complaint to the Varanasi Municipal Corporation, requesting immediate inspection and repair of the structure. However, locals claim that despite the complaint, no action has been taken so far.
With a steady flow of devotees visiting the temple daily, the delay in addressing the issue has sparked concerns about both public safety and the responsiveness of local authorities. Residents are now urging the administration to intervene promptly to prevent any potential accident.
