MCG Cuts C&D Waste Fee, Forms 14 Civic Committees

GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram on Friday approved a cut in construction and demolition waste fees, constituted 14 ad hoc committees to watch civic works, and cleared transfer of corporation land in Sector 7 for a metro station entry and exit, officials said after the general House meeting.

For small producers, C&D waste charges that stood at Rs 360 per ton have been reduced to Rs 50 per ton. Non-bulk producers can deposit waste at the Basai plant or opt for doorstep collection. For bulk generators, the fee, earlier Rs 360 per ton for segregated waste and Rs 720 per ton for unsegregated waste, has been fixed at Rs 360 per ton. Bulk generators must transport and deposit their debris at Basai.

Officials said the cut is meant to push authorised disposal and curb illegal dumping on vacant plots and roadside edges. In 2025, more than 7 lakh tons of C&D waste were deposited at Basai, including 3.66 lakh tons by bulk producers and the rest through the civic agency. A portal for pickup and transport to Basai is now operational for small generators.

The House also formed 14 ad hoc committees with councillors as chairpersons and members. The panels cover beautification; sanitation and public health; advertising and vending zones; accounts and audit; building regulations; water supply; drainage and disposal; assessment of taxes and fees; fire services; expansion and prevention; education and social welfare; planning, improvement and resources; rural and slum development; market, slaughterhouse and public health; vigilance and implementation; and road and chowk naming. Councillors separately raised dairies and stray cattle and sought a dedicated panel; officials said discussions on that demand are under way.

Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra said the committees would tighten monitoring of municipal functioning. The House also approved transfer of 1,445 square metres of MCG land in Sector 7 for the Gurugram Metro Rail Project Priority-2 corridor, needed for entry and exit facilities at the proposed Sector 7 station.

Other clearances included a community centre in Ward 1. The mayor said road repair and patchwork would continue under a two-year drive, with six vehicles deployed daily across parts of the city. She also said decades-old encroachment had been removed from Sukhrali pond.

Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said promoting authorised C&D disposal would support sanitation and environmental management and help curb dust linked to illegal dumping. The fee schedule change lowers the cash barrier for small generators who previously faced Rs 360 per ton, while bulk generators lose the unsegregated surcharge but must still haul loads to Basai themselves. Together with the councillor committees and the Sector 7 metro land transfer, Friday's House sitting sets a near-term checklist for ward offices, the Basai plant desk and metro coordination teams.
