CNG is where the Victoris is clearly cheaper. Its LXI CNG costs Rs 11,54,900, which is Rs 1,49,800 less than the Grand Vitara Delta CNG. At the top of the CNG range, though, the Victoris ZXI CNG and the Grand Vitara Zeta CNG are only Rs 1,900 apart.

The cheapest six-speed automatics are close: the Victoris VXI AT at Rs 13,40,900 and the Grand Vitara Delta AT at Rs 13,49,700, a difference of Rs 8,800.

In the middle of the range the two trade places. The Victoris ZXI manual costs Rs 13,61,900 against Rs 13,85,000 for the Grand Vitara Zeta manual, so the Victoris stays Rs 23,100 cheaper there. One step up, the Grand Vitara Alpha manual at Rs 15,34,700 undercuts the Victoris ZXI+ manual at Rs 15,38,900 by Rs 4,200.

Strong hybrid and AllGrip: who is cheaper

For the strong hybrid, the Victoris VXI starts at Rs 16,42,900, Rs 25,400 below the Grand Vitara Delta+ hybrid. At the top, the order flips. The Grand Vitara Alpha+(O) hybrid costs Rs 19,62,000, while the Victoris ZXI+ (O) strong hybrid costs Rs 19,98,900, the dearest version of either SUV.

The Grand Vitara is also the cheaper way to get AllGrip four-wheel drive. Its Alpha AllGrip costs Rs 18,04,700, which is Rs 64,200 less than the Victoris ZXI+ AT AllGrip. On both SUVs, AllGrip comes only with the petrol automatic.

Claimed efficiency

Maruti quotes slightly better figures for the Victoris in most pairings. The Victoris strong hybrid claims 28.65 km/l against 27.97 km/l for the Grand Vitara hybrid. On CNG, the Victoris claims 27.02 km/kg and the Grand Vitara 26.6 km/kg. The petrol manuals claim 21.18 km/l and 21.11 km/l respectively.

The AllGrip versions are the exception, and both give up some efficiency for four-wheel drive. Maruti claims 19.07 km/l for the Victoris AllGrip and 19.20 km/l for the Grand Vitara AllGrip.

ADAS and dual-tone pricing

On the Victoris, Maruti names ADAS in two versions, the ZXI+ AT 2W (ADAS) at Rs 17,33,900 and the ZXI+ (O) AT 2W (ADAS) at Rs 17,43,000. Dual-tone paint adds about Rs 15,400 on the upper versions of both SUVs, according to their price lists.

Before you choose
