MUMBAI: The five-door Mahindra Thar Roxx is cheaper than the three-door Thar if you want a petrol engine. The Roxx MX1 petrol manual costs Rs 12,52,000 ex-showroom, while the cheapest petrol Thar, the LXT petrol 2WD automatic, costs Rs 14,76,500, according to the variant tables on Mahindra's official website. Price as of 25 October 2026, 12:30 AM IST.

Overall, the three-door Thar, which Mahindra sells as the Thar OG, starts lower at Rs 10,32,000 with a two-wheel-drive diesel and tops out at Rs 18,99,000. The Roxx runs from Rs 12,52,000 to Rs 23,52,500. The petrol result comes from how Mahindra has split the line-ups. Every petrol Thar on the price table is either an automatic or a 4WD, while the Roxx offers a rear-wheel-drive petrol manual at the bottom of its range. That gives the Roxx a Rs 2,24,500 advantage for petrol buyers.

Diesel tells the opposite story. The Thar's AXT diesel 2WD costs Rs 10,32,000, which is Rs 3,91,000 below the cheapest Roxx diesel at Rs 14,23,000.

Automatic buyers pay a smaller premium for the bigger body. The cheapest automatic Thar, the LXT petrol 2WD, costs Rs 14,76,500, and the cheapest automatic Roxx, the MX3 petrol, costs Rs 15,39,000, a gap of Rs 62,500. For a diesel automatic with rear-wheel drive, the Thar LXT costs Rs 16,49,000 against Rs 17,94,000 for the Roxx MX3.

Four-wheel drive costs far more on the Roxx

For off-road buyers, the three-door is the value pick. The Thar offers 4WD from Rs 15,59,500 with the petrol manual, while 4WD on the Roxx starts at Rs 19,56,000 with the MX5 diesel manual, a gap of Rs 3,96,500. Mahindra's Roxx page says its petrol engine is available with rear-wheel drive only, and that the diesel is offered with rear-wheel drive and 4x4.

At the top end, the Thar ZXT diesel 4WD automatic costs Rs 18,99,000, and the Roxx AX7L diesel 4WD automatic costs Rs 23,52,500. The Roxx price buys two extra doors and a fifth seat, as the Thar is listed as a four-seater.

The Roxx also has a Star Edition, which sits in the middle of its range. Mahindra lists it at Rs 17,97,000 for the diesel manual, Rs 18,98,000 for the petrol automatic and Rs 19,48,000 for the diesel automatic, all with rear-wheel drive. The three-door Thar has no equivalent special edition on its current price table.
