In a protest over poor food quality, students of Ganga Hostel at University of Lucknow staged a sit-in on campus, alleging that they have been repeatedly served substandard meals in the hostel mess.

The protest began after several students complained that potatoes were being served in almost every meal. “Potato sandwiches, potato parathas, potato puri, potato curry… how long are we supposed to eat only potatoes?” one of the protesting students said. They also claimed that the tea served in the mess was overly diluted and that the overall quality of food was extremely poor.

According to the students, the situation turned serious when some of them fell ill after consuming the food. A few reportedly experienced vomiting, and a law student allegedly fainted, escalating concerns about hygiene and food safety standards in the hostel.

Angered by the incident, the students gathered inside the hostel premises and demanded strict action against the mess operator. They submitted their complaints to the provost and said that repeated grievances about food quality had earlier been ignored by the administration.

The protesting students have urged the university authorities to immediately improve the quality of meals and ensure proper monitoring of the hostel mess to prevent further health issues.
