Amid the ongoing global tensions between Iran and Israel, India continues to face challenges in LPG supply. The Government of India has now offered 10% additional LPG quota to states to ease the shortage of cooking gas across the country.

According to officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, domestic LPG production has increased by nearly 40%, but the supply situation has not fully stabilised yet. Sujata Sharma, an official from the ministry, stated that although online booking systems have improved, long queues are still being reported at LPG distributor outlets.

Meanwhile, Narendra Modi held a two-hour high-level meeting with Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Parliament House to review the availability of crude oil and natural gas supplies.

During the meeting, discussions were held on crude oil imports, gas availability, and strategies to tackle any potential supply disruptions. The government also reviewed India’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR), which could be used if the energy supply situation worsens.

Officials said that the country currently has several weeks of oil reserves, which reduces the immediate risk of a severe fuel crisis. However, the government is closely monitoring the global situation and encouraging states to gradually promote the use of PNG (Piped Natural Gas) as an alternative to LPG.
