NEW DELHI: LG India lists 2 years of product warranty for its front-loading and top-loading fully automatic washing-machine categories, with 10 years on the direct-drive motor in the same warranty table. The longer motor cover does not extend the whole machine's warranty. LG also says special or extended motor warranties cover parts rather than labour.

Separate the machine from the covered component

A long motor-warranty badge can be easy to read as a promise covering the entire appliance. LG's table separates product warranty and component warranty into different entries. For a claim, the failed part matters as much as the age of the machine. A motor term cannot automatically be applied to a different assembly.

The fully automatic rows specifically name the direct-drive motor. That wording should be matched to the model documents and the actual motor fitted to the machine. It should not be expanded into an unconditional promise that every motor design or every washing-machine part receives the same extended term.

The semi-automatic entry is different again: it lists a wash-motor warranty of 5 years, with an additional condition for models manufactured from January 2020. The manufacturing qualification matters. A purchase date alone does not establish that an older unit falls within that stated category.

Read exclusions before assuming a free repair

LG's washing-machine conditions exclude the lint filter, knobs, inlet and outlet hoses, and top covers from the stated 2-year parts cover. These are specific exclusions on the official page. The general product-warranty number should therefore always be read alongside the conditions underneath the category table.

The same section says special or extended warranties for named motors cover parts and do not include labour. If a repair is proposed under the longer component term, ask the service team to separate the covered component from the work being charged. That makes the estimate easier to compare with the written terms.

A useful estimate identifies the failed part, the relevant cover and each charge. Do not assume that a motor diagnosis also makes every related repair free. Conversely, do not assume that an expired product term automatically ends a still-valid component claim. The diagnosis and the applicable model terms need to be read together.

Put the purchase record beside the serial number

LG requires proof of purchase, such as an invoice or receipt, with the corresponding model or serial number when service is requested under warranty. Keep a readable copy before arranging the visit. The product label and the purchase document should identify the same appliance rather than only a broad description such as front-load washer.

The general conditions restrict the warranty to the first purchase and describe it as non-transferable. They also require warranty repairs to be handled by authorised service personnel. Those conditions belong in the claim check, particularly where the appliance has changed hands or has already been examined by another repairer.

Repair or replacement of a part does not restart the original warranty clock under the published conditions. Cover continues for the unexpired period. Keep the service record, but retain the original purchase record as well; the repair date by itself does not establish a fresh full term for the appliance.

Check the service location and handover record

LG also places a location limit on on-site warranty service in its general conditions. For units beyond the municipal limits of the authorised centre's jurisdiction, it describes customer responsibility for transport or related travel expenses. A warranty claim can therefore involve a location-related charge even before the repair scope is considered.

When arranging assessment, state the model, serial number, purchase date and observable problem. Ask whether any visit or transport amount is proposed, and keep the service reference. These practical steps help connect the diagnosis, warranty category and estimate without guessing which component has failed from the symptom alone.

The official table is a starting point for understanding LG's published cover, while the individual model documents remain essential to the claim. Keep product cover, motor cover and any separately purchased maintenance plan distinct. That prevents a long component term from being mistaken for an all-inclusive service promise for the whole machine.
