KVS winter breaks for summer-station Kendriya Vidyalayas begin on 23 December 2026, but they do not all finish on the same date. The revised 2026-27 schedule gives a 20-day break through 11 January 2027 for one regional group and an 11-day break through 2 January 2027 for another. Ernakulam-region schools and KV Mahe have a separate 10-day window ending on 1 January.

Families should check the school's station classification before arranging a journey. Winter stations and long-winter stations follow other windows, including some that start in early December. The relevant source is the KVS revised vacation memorandum dated 19 January 2026, reproduced in an official school-hosted document. This is an explanation of that published schedule, checked on 1 November, rather than a new closure announcement.

The first summer-station group covers Agra, Jabalpur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Delhi, Gurugram, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Guwahati, Silchar, Tinsukia and Varanasi regional offices. The winter break in that table begins on Wednesday, 23 December, and ends on Monday, 11 January. A school under one of these regional offices must still be identified as a summer station before using that row.

The second summer-station group covers Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai except KV Mahe, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Raipur, Bhubaneswar and Bhopal. Its window also begins on 23 December, but ends on Saturday, 2 January. The Chennai regional office's holiday page independently displays this 11-day winter break.

Ernakulam-region KVs and KV Mahe are grouped separately in the memorandum. Their break ends on Friday, 1 January 2027. That exception is useful for parents comparing two schools within the broader southern network: the regional name alone should not be substituted for the actual school entry.

Which KVs have longer winter holidays?

The winter-station row covers all such schools except those in the Dehradun region, and explicitly includes KV Keylong under the Gurugram region. Its dates are Friday, 4 December 2026, through Friday, 22 January 2027. This is why an assertion that every Gurugram-region KV takes the same December break would be misleading.

Winter stations under Dehradun, including KV SSB Champawat, have the separate 40-day period from Thursday, 10 December 2026, to Monday, 18 January 2027. Parents should ask the school to confirm whether this classification applies, especially when the institution's name is missing from a shortened holiday message.

The memorandum also lists long-winter arrangements. Ladakh Union territory schools at Leh and Kargil, and KVs at Tawang and Ziro, have winter windows from 10 December 2026 to 28 January 2027. KV Dalhousie has its own listed winter break over those same dates. These are exceptions within the published schedule, not extensions automatically available to other schools.

When will school reopen after the winter break?

KVS states that both the beginning and ending dates of a vacation or break are included. The last date in the table is therefore still part of the break. For the first summer-station group, 11 January is included; it is not the first attendance day. Families should then check the school's notice for its next working day and any adjoining holiday.

The memorandum says a holiday immediately before closing or on the opening day will be clubbed with the vacation as a prefix or suffix. That provision makes the local notice important. A parent should not simply add a fixed day to a national table and describe it as a confirmed reopening instruction for every campus.

To verify the dates, open the school's official website, look for its current holiday or vacation notice, and compare the station group with the revised memorandum. If an older list conflicts with the revised schedule, ask the school which later order applies. Keep the full notice available rather than relying on a cropped date row that omits the school group.

This calendar applies to the KVS institutions and categories it names. It does not announce winter holidays for all CBSE schools or all schools in a state. A separate weather closure or district order would also require its own dated notice before being treated as an extension.
