For parents of Class X and Class XII students in CBSE schools, the next four weeks decide whether the name, date of birth and subjects printed on the 2027 admit card are right. The school sends these details to the Board in a List of Candidates, or LOC, and CBSE's circular says that only students whose names go through this process will be allowed to sit the board examinations. This guide is for parents. It uses the Board's LOC circular for 2026-27, dated 17 September 2026 and posted on the CBSE website on 21 September.

The dates that matter

Schools that pay online have a normal window from 24 September to 21 October 2026 to finalise the data. A late fee of Rs 2,000 per candidate, over and above the normal fee, applies from 22 to 30 October. Schools paying by challan have until 17 October in the normal window, and challans can be generated till 26 October with the late fee. The circular says no extension will be given on any last date, and that online submission closes at midnight.

The step that matters most to families comes after the last date. Schools will generate a data verification slip for each candidate. If the candidate's name, the mother's, father's or guardian's name, date of birth or subject is wrong, CBSE will allow the correction from 2 to 4 November 2026. After that, the circular says, no correction will be allowed by the Board.

What changes for your child

Before the school finalises its list, it has to take printouts of the final LOC and obtain the signature of the mother, the father and the candidate to confirm that the names are correct. Treat that signature as a real check. Compare every spelling, the date of birth and each subject with the school records and with your child's earlier certificates.

Once the LOC is submitted, the circular says the Board will not consider requests for change of subject, for admission to Class X or XII except in transfer cases, or for concessions for children with special needs. Children with disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 need to be marked in the CWSN portal, and the cut-off for that is earlier than the LOC deadline.

Subject codes need care. The circular names Hindi A and B, Urdu A and B and, in Class X, Mathematics Standard and Basic as places where mistakes creep in. A combination that is outside CBSE's scheme of studies will be treated as not eligible.

Class X has an added feature this year. The first board examination, held in February and March, is compulsory for every Class X student, and the LOC now being filled is for that first examination. The LOC for the second board examination will be filled after the first one is over. Students may keep the same subjects in the second round, and the circular says schools should brief parents about it.

The circular lists some rules for the second examination. Eligible students who have passed can improve in any of three subjects out of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages. A student who skipped three or more subjects in the first examination cannot sit the second and falls in the Essential Repeat category. Subject change between the two is not allowed, except Mathematics Standard to Basic or the reverse. The circular does not give dates for either examination, so check the Board's date sheet when it appears.

What parents should do now

Ask your child's school when it plans to finalise the LOC and whether it will show you the printout before asking for signatures. Read it line by line. Note the date on which you get the verification slip, and keep 2 to 4 November free in case a correction is needed. If your child is in Class X, ask how the school plans to handle the second examination, since the choice of subjects you confirm now carries over.

The Board's 29 September press release says the process covers nearly 32,000 CBSE-affiliated schools and that the Board wants schools to guide students and parents. It advises everyone to rely on cbse.gov.in for updates on registration, LOC and board examinations.
